Verly Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 22, 2026
Verly is operated from Canada. This Policy explains how Verly collects, uses, protects, retains and discloses personal information and how you can exercise privacy rights that apply to you.
1. Accountability
Verly designates its Privacy Officer as responsible for privacy practices. Privacy questions, access or correction requests, deletion questions and complaints may be sent to privacy@getverly.app.
2. Information Verly may collect
Depending on the features you use, Verly may collect account identifiers, email address, display name, username, profile photo, biography, private date of birth, age-protection classification, posts, comments, prayer requests, prayer interactions, message requests, direct messages, replies, likes, blocks, reports, moderation and safety records, notification/device registration tokens, quiz activity, legal acceptance records, and security or technical information needed to operate and protect the service.
3. Sensitive information
Because Verly is a Christian and prayer-oriented service, information you voluntarily submit may reveal religious or philosophical beliefs. Prayer requests, messages or community content may also reveal health information, family circumstances, sexual orientation, personal hardship or other highly sensitive information. Please consider this before posting publicly.
Private messages are not intended to be publicly displayed, but they may be processed by safety systems and may be preserved when reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect users, comply with law or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
4. Why Verly uses information
Verly uses personal information to create and maintain accounts; provide profiles, community features, prayer tools and messaging; apply age-based protections; deliver notifications; prevent spam, fraud and abuse; enforce blocks and reports; moderate prohibited conduct; secure the service; provide support; satisfy privacy requests; comply with law; resolve disputes; and maintain evidence of agreements where reasonably necessary.
5. Consent and other legal bases
Canadian privacy law may require meaningful consent for particular collections, uses and disclosures. Where GDPR or similar law applies, Verly may rely as appropriate on performance of a contract, consent, legitimate interests, compliance with legal obligations, protection of vital interests, or another lawful basis permitted by law. Optional processing requiring separate consent will not be treated as accepted merely because you accepted the Terms.
6. Date of birth and minors
Verly uses date of birth privately to determine whether account or messaging features are available and to apply age-appropriate protections. Date of birth and exact age are not intended to be displayed on public profiles. The current public beta is restricted to users aged 13 and older.
7. Messaging safety
Verly may restrict contact between age groups, require message requests, enforce blocks and rate limits, and process message content for safety. Reports may preserve relevant evidence even if content is later deleted from ordinary user-facing views.
8. Service providers
Verly uses providers that may process information on Verly's behalf, including Google Cloud and Firebase services for infrastructure, authentication, database, hosting and notifications. Providers may process information in Canada, the United States or other jurisdictions in which they maintain infrastructure, subject to applicable contractual, technical and legal safeguards.
9. International transfers
Personal information may be processed outside your province or country. Where required by applicable law, Verly will use appropriate safeguards for international transfers. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to lawful access requirements there.
10. Retention
Verly seeks to retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, legitimate service and security needs, legal obligations, dispute resolution and enforcement. Retention periods may differ by category.
Deleting an account removes or anonymizes information that Verly no longer needs. Limited information may be retained where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, abuse or child-safety investigations, legal obligations, regulatory requirements, dispute resolution, or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. Such information is not retained merely because it may be useful someday.
11. Account deletion
Verly provides an account-deletion control in the Profile area. Account deletion may remove the profile, private interactions, quiz history and conversations and may anonymize certain public-facing contributions as "Deleted user" where appropriate. Because some safety or legal evidence may need to be retained, deletion should not be interpreted as a promise that every backup or legally retained record disappears instantly.
12. Access, correction and portability
Subject to applicable law and exceptions protecting other people, you may request access to personal information held about you and correction of inaccurate information. Verly also provides a personal-data export function for account information that can reasonably be provided automatically.
13. GDPR and similar rights
Where GDPR or similar law applies, you may have rights to information, access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as rights concerning certain automated decisions. These rights are subject to applicable legal conditions and exceptions.
14. Automated safety controls
Verly may use automated rules or classifiers to identify spam, exploitation, credible threats, prohibited transactions and other safety risks. Automated systems can make mistakes. Where appropriate, you may contact Verly to question a moderation decision. Verly does not intend automated moderation to eliminate rights that applicable law gives you.
15. Security
Verly uses technical and organizational safeguards designed for the sensitivity of the information involved, including authenticated server-side access controls and restrictions on direct database access. No online system can guarantee absolute security.
16. Browser and device storage
Verly may use essential browser or device storage needed for authentication, security, preferences and app operation. If materially different optional tracking or advertising technologies are introduced, Verly will update its notices and obtain consent where required.
17. Privacy incidents
Verly maintains procedures intended to assess security and privacy incidents and will provide notices to individuals or regulators when required by applicable law.
18. Complaints
You may first contact Verly's Privacy Officer at privacy@getverly.app. Nothing in the Terms prevents you from contacting the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, an applicable provincial privacy authority, an EU/EEA supervisory authority, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or another regulator where you have that right.
19. Changes to this Policy
Verly may update this Policy as the service changes. Material changes will be communicated as appropriate, and fresh consent or acknowledgement will be obtained where required by law.
Video activity, watch progress and recommendations
When you are signed in, Verly may record information about video activity such as the story being watched, episode position, playback progress, completion status and the time the story was last watched. This information may be used to provide features such as Continue Watching and to maintain the continuity of your experience.
For eligible adult users, behavioral recommendation personalization is optional and is not treated as accepted merely because the user accepted Verly's Terms or Privacy Policy. If an eligible user chooses to enable personalization, Verly may use watch and completion activity together with interactions such as likes, saves and comments to rank or recommend biblical stories that may be relevant to that user.
Users may turn behavioral personalization off. Turning personalization off stops this activity from being used to behaviorally personalize recommendations going forward, but watch-progress information may continue to be used for functions such as Continue Watching unless the information is otherwise deleted or no longer retained in accordance with this Policy.
Verly does not currently use behavioral recommendation profiling for users classified as teenagers. Teen users may still receive general, freshness-based, engagement-based or diversity-based story recommendations that are not personalized from their individual behavioral profile.
Recommendation systems may change over time as Verly improves the service. Where a new use requires additional consent or notice, Verly will provide it where required.
